Notice to Parents About Kids' Privacy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

DRAFT — not yet reviewed by a lawyer.

Adelante is for kids, and a lot of them are under 13. The U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) says we must tell you what we collect from them and get your permission first. Here it is in plain words.

Who collects it

[Company legal name], [mailing address], [privacy email]. We run Adelante. The companies listed below help us and may use the information only for us.

What we collect from your kid, and why

You enter: first name or nickname, birthday, avatar, interests, PIN and language, to set up their school at the right level.

As they learn, they give us: answers, spoken words turned into text, chats with Luna, reading, writing, drawings, a voice recording of their Big Aim, reflections and projects, plus progress, test results and minutes of school. Luna keeps short notes about what helps them learn. We use all of it only to teach your kid, show you their progress and keep their school record.

We don't ask kids for more than school needs. We never collect a kid's email, phone, address, location or photo, and kids can't message other people.

Who else receives it

Only the services that run the school: Anthropic (Luna's AI) receives your kid's first name, age, interests, Luna's notes and what your kid says and writes to Luna; ElevenLabs (Luna's voice) receives the words Luna says to your kid; Apple or Google turn your kid's speech into text; Supabase and Vercel store and serve the app. None of them may use it for their own purposes, show ads, or sell it.

Your kid's work is shown only inside your family's account.

Your permission

When you add a kid under 13, we ask you to confirm you are their parent or guardian and agree to this notice. We save who agreed, when, and the version of these words (Family → Your family's data). [Lawyer: COPPA requires a verifiable consent method; decide which — e.g. a small card charge or card check through Stripe, a signed form, or ID check — before families outside the founders join.]

You can agree to us collecting and using your kid's information to run Adelante without agreeing to anything else. We don't share kids' information with anyone for their own use, so there's no separate permission to give for that.

Your rights

Any time, you can see your kid's information (their page in the app), get a copy (Download our data), correct it, stop us collecting more (switch their profile off or delete them), and have it deleted (delete the kid, or the whole school). Do it in the app, or email [privacy email] and we'll do it within [30] days after checking it's you.

How long we keep it, and how we protect it

We keep a kid's records while your account is open, until you delete them; deletion takes effect right away (backups expire within [7] days). Everything is encrypted in transit, each family's rows are walled off in the database, PINs are stored only as hashes and kids' files are private. We keep a written security and retention plan.
