DRAFT — not yet reviewed by a lawyer.
This explains what Adelante collects about parents and kids, why, who helps us run the service, and how you can see, download or delete it. We don't show ads, we don't sell or rent information, and we don't track anyone across other sites or apps.
Who we are
Adelante is run by [Company legal name], [mailing address]. Contact us at [privacy email].
What we collect about parents
Your name, email and password (kept by our sign-in provider as a scrambled hash), your family's name, your language, your time zone (read from your phone so school days match your clock), and your school settings, including an optional faith setting if you turn it on.
If you subscribe: your billing status from Stripe (Stripe keeps your card; we never see it). If you make invoices: the billing name and address you type. If you turn on notifications: your browser's notification address. Anything you send us in a problem report.
What we collect about kids
What you enter: a first name or nickname, birthday, an emoji avatar, interests, a PIN (kept only as a scrambled hash) and language.
What they do in school: answers (typed, or spoken and turned into text), chats with Luna, reading (the words heard, speed and accuracy), writing, drawings, voice recordings of their Big Aim, reflections, projects, test results and progress, minutes of school each day, and notes Luna keeps so she can teach them better.
If a kid taps "Something's wrong", we keep what they typed and technical details of the screen.
We do not collect a kid's email, phone number, address, location, contacts or photos of them, and kids can't talk with other people in Adelante.
Cookies and logs
We use only the cookies the app needs: your sign-in, the link that ties a kid's iPad to your family (one year), a kid's session after their PIN (12 hours), your language, and the device's time zone and color choice so the colors match your sky (one year). No advertising or analytics cookies, and no outside tracking tools.
When something breaks we log the page address, browser and device type, screen size and error details. Error logs are deleted after 90 days.
How we use it
Only to run the school: to plan and teach lessons, speak and listen, grade work, keep records and reports, make invoices, send the notifications you turn on, handle billing, help you, keep accounts safe and fix problems.
Luna sometimes tries two good ways of teaching the same skill and keeps the one that works better for your kid.
We never use your family's information for advertising, never sell it, and don't use it to train AI models.
Who helps us run Adelante
These companies work for us and may use the information only to provide their service to us:
Anthropic (Luna's AI): your kid's first name, age, interests, Luna's notes, and what your kid says and writes to her, so she can teach and reply. When Luna looks up a source for a lesson, only the topic and age are searched. [Confirm Anthropic's API data terms: no training on our data; retention period.]
ElevenLabs (Luna's voice): the words Luna says, which can include your kid's first name and Luna's replies. [Confirm ElevenLabs terms; turn on zero retention if available.]
Apple or Google (speech to text): when your kid speaks, the iPad's or browser's built-in speech service turns it into text. In the Adelante iPad app this happens on the iPad itself when the iPad supports it; otherwise, and in a web browser, the sound goes to Apple's or Google's servers.
Supabase (our database and file storage) and Vercel (our web hosting), in the United States. Stripe (payments): your email and the number of kids on Full Service. Apple, Google or Mozilla deliver notifications to your devices; notifications can include your kid's first name.
We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect a child's safety, or if Adelante is sold or merged (the new owner must keep these promises, and we'll tell you first).
Outside websites you approve for your kids (for example Khan Academy) open on those sites, under their own policies.
Kids under 13
We collect kids' information only with a parent's permission, given when the kid is added. The Notice to Parents About Kids' Privacy explains it in detail.
How long we keep it
Your kids' work is a school record, so we keep it while your account is open, until you delete it. Canceling a plan doesn't delete anything, so you can come back.
When you delete a kid or your whole school (Family → Your family's data), their records and files are removed from our database and storage right away. Copies in our providers' backups expire within [backup retention, e.g. 7 days]. Error logs are deleted after 90 days. We keep a short note that a deletion happened, with no names in it.
Short recordings of Luna's voice are kept in a shared cache so they don't have to be made twice. Some include a kid's first name; they aren't linked to your family. [Decide: clear this cache on a schedule.]
[Decide: delete accounts with no activity for N months, after an email warning.]
Your choices
See it: every kid's page shows their day, work, notes and chats with Luna. Download it: Family → Your family's data → Download our data. Correct it: edit the kid's profile, or add a note for Luna. Delete it: one kid, or the whole school, on the same page, or email us.
You can also turn off Luna's voice, notifications, outside links and the faith setting, or switch a kid's profile off. Depending on where you live you may have more rights; we give these rights to every family.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels encrypted. Our database checks every request so one family can never see another family's rows. PINs and passwords are stored only as hashes, kid files are private, and a PIN locks after 5 wrong tries. Only [named staff] can see support tools. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email first, and ask for your permission again where the law requires it.
